Washington 4th graders have been studying weathering and erosion using skittles and sugar cubes. Students shook the sugar cubes to demonstrate how rocks can be worn down overtime and how the sediment from those rocks can be eroded away easily by wind or water. Students also examined what happens when "rain" falls on "skittle rocks." The water dissolves the colorful shell (similar to weathering), then the water moves colorful shell away to model erosion.
